Our Work Social Media

Social Media

Like it or loath it, Social Media can’t be avoided and needs to be used appropriately on your website. Estimates vary, but we have figures of the average time users are on Facebook a month being between seven and ten hours. Use a Facebook page for personal use, but have a separate one for business. The your business page and website will drive traffic to each other.

‘Follow us’ and ‘Share’ are the two main considerations. Share is easy as it’s simple links from the website to FaceBook, which of course you can link back from. ‘Follow us’ is ‘Facebook Like’ and ‘Facebook Comments’. It’s a bit of a minefield that we can help you navigate through.

Twitter can form the third leg of linking. Tweet and post on Facebook, while the Twitter stream on you website displays it immediately.

Don’t underestimate the time involved and the creativity required to keep this all up-to-date, fresh and meaningful. If you don’t keep up, you could end up with efforts like ours. Oh dear, another memo, must try harder in this respect.

Facebook

Why would you wish to Tweet? Well, lots of people do – and not just politicians, footballers and celebrities. Here’s a good reason. Is there any better and quicker way to update the news on your website? Probably not, unless you hack people off and they start replying negatively. Twitter can be very useful – seriously.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is not used as much as it should be by small business. Keerim has a number of company pages that we have created and look after for business clients. We are astounded by the degree of interest and engagement LinkedIn Updates create.

Video

Video has been around for a long time, but it’s definitely the ‘new kid’ on the marketing block. Videos for introducing yourself, testimonials, product details can be excellent. Everyone uses YouTube, we prefer Vimeo, because the quality is better and you don’t get advertising or links to other websites that you don’t want. We’ll manage your videos too.

How we work with videos

Video is integral to the future of the web and success for business. YouTube and Vimeo are the most used hosts, but they come with advertising and links that may not be appropriate for the website. We have been trying to find an effective, advert and link free alternative.

Video hosted on Vimeo Pro

We prefer Vimeo, because we can setup a Vimeo Pro or Plus account and take control of what is shown with the video – preferably nothing. This is not free, but effective. The video above is on a Vimeo Pro Account.

Video hosted on Keerim server

Some schools have YouTube and Vimeo blocked and some public WiFi services block them as well. After three years of searching we think we have found the answer. Videos in any format, hosted on our servers that display on all devices without advertising, etc. A little more expensive for us, but worthwhile. Oh, and they are responsive too.

Video Costs

Video is all about bandwidth, which unfortunately costs money. If someone watches a 50MB video hosted on our server, both Keerim and the user use up pre-paid bandwidth. A lot of use and we have to buy more bandwidth.

That’s what compulsive about YouTube or Vimeo – they pay for the bandwidth, as does the user – we don’t. The trade off is that the user receives advertising and unwanted links.

It may cost a little, but would you rather display your videos without all the marketing. Talk to us.

Note of caution

Facebook Like, Facebook comments and Twitter Timeline all depend on software being downloaded from elsewhere in the world. They can add hugely to the weight of your page and inevitably will slow down your site. In extreme cases when Facebook or Twitter is down (more often than you might think) your site may just hang, waiting for the services to come back online.
